We're Up and Running!!

Mark it in your diaries, 10th June 2008 at 7pm was the beginning of the second largest Ultimate Frisbee League in Ireland!!  Ok, there isn't a lot of competition with just the one other league in Dublin but nonetheless an occasion to be proud of.  An exciting event showing how Ultimate is growing in Belfast and beyond.

On this occasion just four teams were required for the two matches.  On one pitch The LDW took on Deep Heat whilst on the other CHASE played Kebab Hammer.

In the first match, The LDW had experience and pace on their side, which proved to be a winning combination.  At times matured players such as Adam Dalton and Ob were able to evade their marks and score easily.  Nevertheless, Deep Heat weren't willing to roll over and were able to exchange scores for the greater part of the match inspite of their lack of experience.  In the end, The LDW ran out 9-7 winners but Deep Heat showed promise and will undoubtedly be a tricky team for future fixtures.

The second match offered a different prospect as the newly formed Kebab Hammer took on the organised outfit of CHASE.  CHASE's pre-league training showed as they dominated the game winning 11-4, demonstrating their intent of lifting the Summer League title.  Kebab Hammer however are at the very beginning of their journey and have plenty of potential if presently unrealised.

And so it is from small, inauspicious beginnings that great things come.  In the next week, two further teams (SCRUFF and The Swerve) will throw their hats into the ring broadening the league even further.  As more and more people are introduced to Ultimate , with enthusiasm, a bit of daring and a smattering of fun, who knows, just maybe, maybe one day the Belfast Ultimate Summer League will be the biggest league in the whole of Ireland.
