The match that was billed “the peoples final” very nearly turned into a match that never was, with the LDW captain Moo struggling for players in the lead up to match. Valiant cries of “We will play with 4…the LDW never quit” were heard with only hours to go. With the match getting closer he managed to pull a team together, and for everyone’s sake we were glad he did.
With both teams under strength, this was sure to be even tighter than everyone first thought. It was CHASE who made the better start to the first half, who at one point were 5-1 up. Not to be defeated Moo rallied the troops and scored 4 unanswered points making the score 5-5 and all to play for. CHASE then managed to hit back, scoring another 3 making the score 8-5, bringing half time and a welcomed break for both teams.
The second half started with a bang, with LDW scoring 2 quick unanswered points, bringing the score to 8-7, with little more than 5 minutes left to play. CHASE managed to reply with a long point, making it 9-7 with 1 minute left. LDW upped their game looking for those 2 points to level the game, constantly bombarding the CHASE end zone, but it was not to be, with CHASE coming out eventual winners 9-8.
Credit must go to both teams for putting on a very close, enjoyable game on the night, especially to the LDW as they were struggling for players. Watch out for the “grudge rematch” on super Saturday, when hopefully both teams will be back to full strength.
