And They're SCRUFF!!

Too fast and too fit were the complaints levelled by the older, less fit Deep Heat as SCRUFF took their first victory of the Summer League, 10-5.

In a one-sided match, SCRUFF showed that a team willing to run in both defense and offense can potentially upset many an experienced team. Often the ability of SCRUFF to break down field after a turnover proved too much as they were able to pick up scores on the break despite Deep Heat having the lion's share of posession.

Curiously the scoreline also turned out to be the inverse of the size of the teams. Deep Heat with their largest turnout of the season, played most of the first half with two sides of equal experience. This provided a shared amount of experience for the squad but it also played to SCRUFF's advantage. With their Iron Man team they built up an understanding and clocked up a 8-4 lead by half-time.

In the short second half, Deep Heat chose to play their most experienced team in, what turned out to be, a vain attempt to claw back the scoreline. Despite their wealth of experience, they still lost the half 2-1. SCRUFF proved to be too fast and aggresive for whatever Deep Heat could throw at them.

SCRUFF have a very exciting future ahead of them if they continue with their fast, athletic ultimate - two characteristics many teams will struggle to contain. Deep Heat are also at the start of their journey and also have an exciting future. By continuing their recruitment and development into a coed team, they will be an exciting addition to ulimate in Northern Ireland.

And as there were complaints, here's another shot of SCRUFF
